There are 3 rules to the game:
1) Every month one person picks the places to dine.
2) No one in the group could have eaten there before.
3) Everyone splits the bill.

-APRIL-
For years we have driven by a Mediterranean restaurant in Oakland called Khalil’s and Rachael has always wondered about it. Tonight was her night and we gave it a try. It is decorated as one would think with old tile, their local colorful light fixtures and traditional dish and glassware.Rachael started her dinner with a Pom Fig martini, fig vodka and 100% Turkish Pomegranate, garnished with a dried fig ($12).We shared Dolmas Dinner, stuffed grape leaves served cold ($14). They were very flavorful and firm.Next was Hummus Bi Lahme ($18), hummus topped with roasted lamb, pignolia nuts and slivered almonds. These two dishes were my favorites.Next was a fig and feta maneesh ($13), a flatbread topped with fig, feta, pomegranate, crushed almonds and pignolia nuts, drizzled with a very sweet balsamic glaze. The kefta skewer was plated with fresh spinach, tomato and red onion and the skewer was topped with a light red sauce ($26).The spanakopita was rich, crispy and light ($12).Then on to dessert! Rachael had the Booza and Bouza ($12), vanilla ice cream topped with baklava and a delicious Ballotin chocolate whiskey and I had the traditional baklava sundae ($8), both very good. We had very nice service and the waitress did a great job.Until next time, happy eating!
