Restaurant Roulette with Suzanne! May Issue!

There are 3 rules to the game:

1) Every month one person picks the places to dine.

2) No one in the group could have eaten there before.

3) Everyone splits the bill.

Follow me on this journey of tasting new things and learning more about the city I love! Feel free to use this game with your own family or friends and share below the amazing places you find throughout your travels!

-MAY-

This month was my turn to pick the restaurants.
We headed to Mt Lebanon to a sub level casual Lebanese restaurant called Laziz Mediterranean Cuisine.
For starters we ordered a feta spinach pie ($5.99) and mujadara topped with caramelized onions ($11). Both were served hot and had great flavor. Our waiter was very friendly and shared his family background. Great place to order take out.
Then we were on our way to Braddock to Asti’s Italian Steakhouse, in the Grandview Golf Club clubhouse. As we wound our way up to the place we were surprised to find the parking lot packed. As we walked over toward the restaurant and asked a gentleman about the place he shared that Wednesday is always crowded because it is Jazz night with Kenny Blake. The online rating is 4.5 to 4.8 stars and peaked my curiosity since the site boasted about their view of Pittsburgh. There wasn’t an obvious hostess but the place was bustling as we stood there waiting to be seated. After asking 3 waiters, we were seated in a dining area with a panoramic view from West Mifflin and Kennywood, to the Waterfront, the Allegheny River to the City and Oakland. We had the friendliest waitress who shared her favorite dishes. Rachael started with a glass of wine as we perused the menu. I said they have a BYOBURGER, bring your own burger?!? which sent Rachael into hysterics. Their specials are Steak, salmon and Italian.
The table shared warm focaccia bread and house salads with homemade Italian dressing.
We shared chicken parmesan served with spaghetti ($21) and as recommended by our waitress as her favorite, the gnocchi with blush sauce ($23) and added a homemade meatball. Nice solid food especially for the portions and price.
The music was lively and the crowd was very friendly. And…we continued!! Rachael spotted an almond torte ($7) on the menu and a chocolate bomb ($9) so we ordered coffee as well.
The chocolate bomb was a cute mound of chocolate ganache filled with chocolate cake and chocolate mousse. Very nice. The star of the show was the almond torte, very similar to the dessert we loved for many years at the deceased Mallorca on the South Side. No Spanish coffee though. We will be back to try their noteworthy Reuben and another slice of almond torte!
By the time we left, we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset.
